How to Get Free Samples

Getting "something for nothing" is a reality. Legitimate companies want you to try their product so you will tell your friends and help spread the word about them. It is often called word of mouth marketing. Here are some of the basic things you should do to protect yourself from scams or identify theft when requesting free samples.

What Not To Give Out

Never give out your social security or credit card number to request a free sample. If it is a free sample you will not need a credit card. If you are signing up for a trial then you might need to supply a credit card because you would then be paying for a subscription. But, if you are signging up for a free sample then it will not be called a trial.

Read the Fine Print

Have you ever read this, "Terms and Conditions apply." Usually that means there is some string attached to the free sample you are requesting. The terms and conditions might be acceptable to you but you need to actually read the fine print to find out what is required. Maybe you are signing up for a magazine subscription and only get 1 or 2 issues for free. If the company you are requesting it from is legitimate you will be able to figure out what you are getting by reading the fine print. But, you have to read it to make sure.

Don't Want to Use your Real Phone Number?

When you are requesting a free sample there really is no reason the company needs your phone number. If you are entering a sweepstakes that is a different thing because the company might contact you if you are a winner. If you don't want to use your real phone number but the form won't let you submit it unless you put a phone number then either fill it with random numbers, or 000-000-0000 or sign up for a k7.net account, which lets you get a free phone number, and you can check your voicemail online. (this last part came from my friend James at JustFreeStuff.com)

Sign up for a Separate Email Address

I suggest that you sign up for a separate email address that you can use to request free samples and also use to enter sweepstakes. It will keep your personal email account free from a lot of extra email. When you sign up for free sample or sweepstakes you often agree to get that company's email newsletter and unless you opt out at some point your email Inbox will fill up with newsletters. Company newsletters are good though because often you will find more free offers and sweepstakes in future newsletter so you want to keep them coming.

Some good free email companies you could sign up with include Yahoo, Gmail, Live (Microsoft), or AOL. I use Gmail.

Be Patient

Remember that many times it takes from 4 to 6 weeks to receive a free sample in the mail. If you start requesting samples today and keep requesting them you will have freebies in your mailbox on a regular basis.

Privacy Policy

If you are concerned that the company you are requesting the free sample or other freebie from is legitimate, check to see if they have a privacy policy. Many times it will be a link at the very bottom of the page. It will tell you know what the company will or will not do with your name, address, phone, or email you might give them to request a free sample.

Do you want Free Stuff you can't find?

Maybe you want to try that new cereal, dog food, or bathroom tissue you saw on TV but you can't find it it in your store and you can't find a free sample listed online. Why not contact the company directly and tell them you would really like to try their product. They might send you a free sample or coupons. It sure never hurts to try the direct approach.

Remember to check out free or "pay what you want days" at museums. For example, in NYC there are a LOT of museums that are FREE or by contribution.

TIP #2
Use public transportation to get places. You'll get to see the sights for a lot less. For example - the city bus in Paris will cost you about 1.5€, whereas the Hop On/Hop Off bus will cost you 29€.

TIP #3
Lunch will traditionally cost less than dinner. Make lunch (or a late lunch) your main meal and have a light dinner.

TIP #4
Your cell phone may not work in the area that you're visiting (or have CRAZY fees), why not use Skype and your laptop to phone home for FREE? Many hotels have business centers so you can use their computers for free.

TIP #5
If you're planning to stay in an area for a week or more, why not rent an apartment rather than stay in a hotel? You'll find the prices lower and you'll really get a feel for the neighborhood.

TIP #6
When researching your destination, use your local library to check out guidebooks. Even if they're out of day (prices) they'll still help you plan what NOT TO MISS!

TIP #7
If you stay at a hotel in a city that you're not familiar with, take a few of their business cards & tuck them your wallet. That way you can give them to the cab driver to let him know where you're going (great if you're in a country where you don't speak the language).

Forgo the high priced restaurants and eat where the locals do. Your bill will be less and you'll get authentic regional food.

There is nothing better than getting free samples in your mailbox and companies are competing for the opportunity to market to you directly by delivering a free sample to your mailbox. Free samples are not just those small sample pouches, but often full-size products just like you would buy at the store. How do you find and request these free samples? Get on the internet and start surfing. You can visit message boards like Hot Coupon World that cover not just the free samples but also the best store deals and coupons.

Most people are overwhelmed with the amount of information shared on message boards, so that's where frugal bloggers like me step-in to point you in the direction of freebies you actually want. At Freebies4mom.com I give my readers the links to the best samples available, these are samples that come directly from the manufacturer or a well-known retailer.

The best source of free samples is Wal-Mart. If you were to visit one website, once a week for free samples, Wal-Mart would be that website for the best variety of samples. The key to saving money and using this blog is to "stack" your coupons. Match up sales with store coupons on top of manufactured coupons and receive rebates for the same item. Sometimes you can even make money. Walgreens has to be my favorite drugstore for finding deals. Not only do they seem to have the best deals and sales, but they offer real cash back rebates. Got to love getting a check at the end of the month and the free items in my stockpile! Rite Aid to me has the simplest deals to follow. The do not offer register rewards, just circular coupons and rebates. Simple! I personally like to get real cash back for my purchases and not just credit to buy more at CVS. I admit it is nice to have the ExtraCare bucks on hand. Having to worry about the minimum to buy and tracking the expiration date is not fun for me. I have found some pretty good deals without the ExtraCare bucks.
